Feature summary
Calcium provides strong bone development during youth and the acquired bone density needed to get us through our later years without osteoporosis. Osteoporosis causes bones to become brittle and fragile and affects one out of four women and one out of eight men over 50 years of age in Canada. Although calcium is the central mineral in bone mineralization, magnesium supports healthy bones while vitamin D enhances bone mineral density. Calcium Magnesium with Vitamin D, Easy Absorption, Krebs Cycle, is recommended for those with low stomach acid, such as the elderly. This form of calcium is attached to available Krebs Cycle minerals for increased absorption and utilization. Vitamin D facilitates calcium absorption, decreases urinary calcium wastage and facilitates the incorporation of calcium into the bones.
The National Academy of Sciences currently recommends that people ages 19-50 consume 1,000 mg of calcium per day, and that people 50 years of age or older over get 1,200 mg per day. Magnesium is needed to encourage the correct utilization of calcium by the body to increase bone strength.
